Certified translations


This Consulate DOES NOT MAKE TRANSLATIONS. We strongly advise you to contact a professional translator from the Yellow Pages, on the internet or alternatively please contact one of the of the translators from this list (click here). We reserve the right to refuse the certification if the translation is not faithful to the original.


IMPORTANT: all translations of certificates to be submitted to this Consulate MUST be certified following the instruction below. Letters of conformity written by the translators are not accepetable as a cetification substitute.


PLEASE NOTE: The Apostille DOES NOT require a translation and therefore it does not require a certification

The certification of a translation can only be issued upon submission of the original document and for the following categories of documents only:

  • British certificates (with Apostille) for citizenship use
  • Italian certificates for use in British offices
  • Declarations of value of academic qualifications issued in Scotland and Northern Ireland

Usually certificates require legalisation by means of Apostille. In this case it responsibility of the applicant to request the legalisation by the relevant authorities BEFORE requesting the certification of a translation.


  • VERY IMPORTANT: this consualr office can only certify transaltions of certificates issued in Italy or in Scotland and Northern Ireland. For certificates issued in other countries and in languages other than English or Italian you shall contact the competent consular office in the country of issue of your certificates.

To request a certification of translation you must provide the following:

· Application form (click here)

· Photocopy of ID (pages with photo and signature)

· Original documents (with Apostille if British certificates)

· Translations into Italian or into English

· Payment by Postal Order ONLY (do not send cash nor cheques) to "Italian Consulate General" (please write your name at the back of the Postal order). For the relevant fees click here

Once issued (usually within 5 working days*), the certification will be sent to your address by ordinary post (1st class). If you prefer to receive your documents by special delivery or signed for, you must also include a self-addressed prepaid envelope.

*Estimated time based on an average of two certificates. If the service is required for more than two certificates at the same time, please allow one extra working day per extra certificate.
