FAMILY MEMBERS OF EU CITIZENS Schengen Visa (C Type)

FAMILY MEMBERS OF EU CITIZENS Schengen Visa (C Type)

Family members of a national of a EU/EEA country who hold a Residence Card issued by the U.K. authorities, do not need a visa to enter Italy if travelling with/joining the EU/EEA family member in Italy (EU Directive 2004/38/CE, as implemented by Italian law no. 30 of 6/02/2007). In this case no visa shall be issued under any circumstances.

It should be noted that Border Police always have the right to request further documentation in support of your entry into the Schengen Area.

It is highly advisable to carry with you your original official proof of relationship such as marriage certificate or birth certificate when travelling.

PLEASE NOTE: The holder of a "Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National" or a residence card for "FAMILY MEMBER – EU RESIDENCE" travelling ALONE (i.e. without travelling with – or joining - the Italian or EU/EEA citizen) must submit all the required documents as an ordinary applicant [click HERE to be redirected to the Tourism visa section] and will be subject to the appropriate visa fee.

IMPORTANT: The U.K. Residence Card must bear the following specific wording as indicated below (1 & 2), you will need a visa if any other different wording appears on your U.K. Residence Documentation/Permit (see HERE):

  1. “Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National"

  2. “FAMILY MEMBER – EU RESIDENCE”

YOU NEED A VISA if any other different wording from the above appears on your UK Residence Documentation/Permit
