APOSTILLE - NEW PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING THE LEGALISATION OF DOCUMENTS BY THE FOREIGN & COMMONEALTH OFFICE

We are aware that the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has severly restricted its legalisation service, however, they have introduced an emergency application procedure for urgent cases. For those urgently requiring legalisation of a document by means of Apostille you are advised to proceed in one of two ways:

1) by sending an email to: UrgentLegalisation@fco.gov.uk. You should attach a scanned copy of the document to be legalised and give details concerning the urgency of your application i.e. approaching deadline for submission of an application, passport application etc.. You should also state that the Italian authorities cannot accept the letter which they are currently offering in lieu of the legalisation service. FCO will assess your request and, if they deem the matter to be urgent, will then provide information on how to submit your documentation and payment by post:

2) by using a third party agency which is accredited by FCO. We are unable to recommend any particular agency but there are numerous to be found via an internet search using keywords such as "UK Apostille Services" or "UK Apostille". Please note that handling fees will be charged by these agencies, over and above the fee for the Apostille, so you are advised to check their websites carefully.

Please note that, due to the rapidly evolving situation which is affecting many services, the above information is subject to change at short notice. You are therefore advised to check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website for updates: https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised.
