{"id":1074,"date":"2023-05-18T12:18:35","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T10:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-discendenza-jure-sanguinis\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T12:47:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T11:47:51","slug":"cittadinanza-per-discendenza-jure-sanguinis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-discendenza-jure-sanguinis\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizenship by birth right \u2013 Iure Sanguinis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>NEW PROCEDURES FOR THE RECOGNITION OF CITIZENSHIP <em data-start=\"52\" data-end=\"68\">IURE SANGUINIS<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>All new applications for the recognition of citizenship <em data-start=\"128\" data-end=\"144\">iure sanguinis<\/em> are subject to the provisions imposed by the new Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025, which converted, with amendments, the legislative decree No. 36 of March 28, 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025<\/strong>, which converted, with amendments, the legislative decree No. 36 of March 28, 2025, <strong>has introduced significant limitations on the transmission of Italian citizenship and, consequently, also on the procedure for recognition <em data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"548\">iure sanguinis<\/em> for descendants of Italian citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new citizenship law has confirmed the limitation on the infinite automatic transmission of citizenship <em data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"709\">iure sanguinis<\/em>, introducing certain modifications that give relevance to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">exclusive<\/span> possession of Italian citizenship by the ancestors (meaning, they must NOT possess other citizenships).<\/p>\n<p>For those residing abroad, the new citizenship law allows the recognition of Italian citizenship <strong data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"943\">ONLY<\/strong> in the following cases:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-discendenza-jure-sanguinis\/parent-who-possesses-exclusively-italian-citizenship\/\"><strong>A FIRST-DEGREE ASCENDANT (PARENT) <em>POSSESSES<\/em>, OR POSSESSED AT THE TIME OF DEATH, EXCLUSIVELY ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP.<\/strong><\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-discendenza-jure-sanguinis\/grandparent-who-possesses-exclusively-italian-citizenship\/\"><strong>A SECOND-DEGREE ASCENDANT (GRANDFATHER\/GRANDMOTHER) POSSESSES, OR POSSESSED AT THE TIME OF DEATH, EXCLUSIVELY ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP.<\/strong><\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>A FIRST-DEGREE ITALIAN\u00a0ASCENDANT (PARENT) HAS RESIDED IN ITALY FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS AFTER ACQUIRING ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP AND BEFORE THE BIRTH OF THE CHILD.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NEW PROCEDURES FOR THE RECOGNITION OF CITIZENSHIP IURE SANGUINIS All new applications for the recognition of citizenship iure sanguinis are subject to the provisions imposed by the new Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025, which converted, with amendments, the legislative decree No. 36 of March 28, 2025.
