of lost Italian citizeship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"64\" data-end=\"364\"><strong data-start=\"64\" data-end=\"94\">Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025<\/strong>, converting Decree Law 36\/2025, amended <strong data-start=\"135\" data-end=\"182\">Article 17, paragraph 1, of Law No. 91\/1992<\/strong>, allowing former Italian citizens, including those residing abroad, in certain cases and for a limited time period, to <strong data-start=\"302\" data-end=\"363\">reacquire Italian citizenship by submitting a declaration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"366\" data-end=\"470\">The <strong data-start=\"370\" data-end=\"421\">new Article 17, paragraph 1, of Law No. 91\/1992<\/strong> applies when the following requirements are met:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The applicant must have been <strong data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"520\">born in Italy<\/strong> or have been <strong data-start=\"534\" data-end=\"590\">resident in Italy for at least two consecutive years<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The applicant must have <strong data-start=\"618\" data-end=\"676\">lost Italian citizenship no later than August 15, 1992<\/strong>, in one of the following cases:\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Voluntarily acquired a foreign citizenship no later than August 15, 1992, and established residence abroad<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/1912\/06\/30\/012U0555\/sg\">articolo 8, numero 1\u00b0, della legge n. 555\/1912<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li>Having automatically acquired a foreign citizenship (not by their own choice), they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">renounced Italian citizenship and established residence abroad<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/1912\/06\/30\/012U0555\/sg\">articolo 8, numero 2\u00b0, della legge n. 555\/1912<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li>Was a minor child (not emancipated) of someone who lost citizenship, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">shared residence with the parent, and acquired the citizenship of a foreign state<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/1912\/06\/30\/012U0555\/sg\">articolo 12 della legge n. 555\/1912<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The new Article 17, paragraph 1, of Law No. 91\/1992 <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">does NOT apply to<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Former citizens <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">born abroad who have not resided in Italy for at least two consecutive years<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>Those who l<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ost citizenship after August 15, 1992<\/span> (for any reason);<\/li>\n<li>Those who lost citizenship under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/1912\/06\/30\/012U0555\/sg\">articolo 8, numero 3\u00b0<\/a>\u00a0(i.e., anyone who, &#8220;having accepted employment with a foreign government or entered military service for a foreign power, persisted in such service despite the Italian government&#8217;s order to leave such employment or service within a specified time&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Those who did not exercise the option<\/span> provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/atto\/serie_generale\/caricaDettaglioAtto\/originario?atto.dataPubblicazioneGazzetta=1983-04-26&amp;atto.codiceRedazionale=083U0123&amp;elenco30giorni=false#:~:text=Il%20coniuge%2C%20straniero%20o%20apolide,se%20non%20sussista%20separazione%20legale.\">articolo 5, secondo comma, della legge n. 123\/1983<\/a> (a <strong data-start=\"1900\" data-end=\"1915\">minor child<\/strong>, including adopted, of an Italian father or mother who, in case of dual citizenship, could choose one citizenship within one year of reaching the age of majority).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong data-start=\"2081\" data-end=\"2098\">Italian women<\/strong> married to British citizens <strong data-start=\"2127\" data-end=\"2153\">before January 1, 1948<\/strong>, who acquired <strong data-start=\"2168\" data-end=\"2191\">British citizenship<\/strong> and consequently <strong data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2237\">lost Italian citizenship<\/strong> under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/1912\/06\/30\/012U0555\/sg\">art. 10 comma 3 della legge 555\/1912<\/a>, can <strong data-start=\"2294\" data-end=\"2361\">only reacquire Italian citizenship through judicial recognition<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2367\" data-end=\"2399\">not through consular offices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><a
