An appointment\u00a0<\/strong>is necessary for those services which require the applicant’s presence in person. Appointments can be booked according to the instructions available on the different Consulate departments webpage. Those calling without a valid appointment – with the exception of emergency cases – will NOT let into the Consulate General premises.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE CONTACTING US<\/strong><\/p>\n

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS TO VISIT SCOTLAND.<\/strong> Starting from 1st October 2021, Italian, most of the EU countries and Swiss citizens who intend to travel to the United Kingdom for tourism, visits to family and friends and other limited short-term activities for up to 6 months must be in possession of a valid passport, but are exempt from the visa requirement (i.e. ‘Standard Visitor Visa<\/em>‘) .
\nIdentity cards are no longer accepted as valid travel documents and it is not possible to enter the United Kingdom without holding a valid passport. This does not apply to EU, EEA and Swiss citizens holding valid status under the EU Settlement Scheme (‘pre-settled<\/em>‘ or ‘settled<\/em>‘).

PLEASE NOTE<\/strong> \u2013 Starting from 2nd April 2025, the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is in effect<\/strong> as a travel requirement. This obligation applies also to Italian citizens. The ETA is not a visa, but rather an electronic authorization to travel to the United Kingdom<\/strong> for foreign nationals exempt from the visa requirement. The ETA authorization is required for short-term stays. Therefore, it is mandatory to obtain an ETA before traveling to the United Kingdom.

\nForeign nationals residing in the United Kingdom with a valid residence permit, including those with pre-settled<\/em> or settled status<\/em> under the EU Settlement Scheme<\/em>. are exempt from the ETA requirement.<\/p>\n
