{"id":938,"date":"2023-05-26T12:34:05","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T10:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/rimpatrio-salme-ceneri\/rimpatrio-ceneri\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T15:08:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T14:08:51","slug":"rimpatrio-ceneri","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consedimburgo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/rimpatrio-salme-ceneri\/rimpatrio-ceneri\/","title":{"rendered":"Repatriation of Human Ashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the repatriation of ashes to Italy it is necessary to apply \u2013 through this Office \u2013 for relevant consular declaration and seal (to be placed on the casket containing the ashes), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>only after we have obtained the relevant authorization from the appropriate Italian Authorities<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to start the process this Office shall require (send PDF scans by email to <a href=\"mailto:anagrafe.consedimburgo@esteri.it\">anagrafe.consedimburgo@esteri.it<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>F<\/strong><strong>ull details of the deceased (complete name, place and date of birth \/ by means of copy of passport);<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>T<\/strong><strong>he cause, place and date of death (by means of submitting full extract of death certificate);<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>D<\/strong><strong>etails relating to the cremation (by means of submitting \u2018cremation certificate\u2019);<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Details regarding the p<\/strong><strong>lace of interment and airport of entry.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once in possession of relevant authorization we shall arrange for a suitable date for the casket to be taken to this Italian Consulate General for relevant consular seal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All documentation required shall be submitted in original to this Italian Consulate General when calling in for the purposes of placing the \u2018consular seal\u2019 on the casket.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ORIGINAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(<em>please note the original documents must be lodged with this Consulate and cannot be returned<\/em>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>FULL EXTRACT OF DEATH CERTIFICATE \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>duly LEGALISED by means of\u00a0<strong><u>APOSTILLE<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0(see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-document-legalised\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>CREMATION CERTIFICATE\u00a0<\/strong>(in original format) <strong>\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>duly LEGALISED by means of\u00a0<strong><u>APOSTILLE<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0(see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-document-legalised\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The CONSULAR FEES\u00a0<\/strong>applicable shall have to be verified with this Office when applying for relevant\u00a0authorization, and must be paid in full when calling in personally at this Office \u2013 by means of cash, debit card, or (<strong><u>only<\/u><\/strong> from \u201cFUNERAL DIRECTORS\u201d) cheque payable to the Italian Consulate General.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For the repatriation of ashes to Italy it is necessary to apply \u2013 through this Office \u2013 for relevant consular declaration and seal (to be placed on the casket containing the ashes), only after we have obtained the relevant authorization from the appropriate Italian Authorities.
