Admission/Re-admission to an Italian school after studies abroad

If you are planning to move to Italy and your child attended one or more school years in a school that falls under the British education system and that is based in this Consulate General catchment area (Scotland and Northern Ireland), but they did NOT receive a final education certificate, yet (i.e. National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher for Scotland; GCSE, AS-level, A-level in Northern Ireland), you can apply for a consular certificate for admission/re-admission to an Italian school purposes.

How to apply for a certificate

Applications for a certificate can be submitted by post only, sending all the relevant documents to the following address:

Ufficio Titoli di Studio
Consolato Generale d’Italia
Italy House
20-22 East London Street
Edinburgh – EH7 4BQ

Which documents do I need to submit?

  1. Application form (click HERE) duly filled and signed (handwritten signature) by one parent or by the student themselves, if over the age of 18. The applicant must provide post and phone contacts;
  2. copies of a valid identity document (passport or national identity card), of the student and of the applying parent – if applicable;
  3. original attendance letter, on headed paper, issued by the school or college. The letter must include the following information: full name and date of birth; enrolment dates; years attended; final marks – if available;
  4. proof of further studies registration (e.g.: pre-registration to an Italian school);
  5. (if the documents are to be returned to an address in the UK): a self-addressed pre-paid envelope.

Return of documents

If the documents are to be returned to an address in the UK, the self-addressed pre-paid envelope to be included in the application will be used (see point 5 above).

If the documents are to be returned to an address outside the UK, an international tracked service or an international courier are to be organised by the applicant. In this case, the Qualifications Office will contact the applicant with further instructions, when the certificate will be ready.

Processing times for a certificate

All applications will be processed within 30 days from receiving all the documents listed above, pursuant to relevant legislation (Section 2, paragraph 2, Law 241/1990). Such time limit may be extended, should the office require further information, clarification, or additional documents to process the application. Incomplete applications will not be processed and they will be returned to the applicant.

NOTE: It is NOT possible to apply for a certificate paying the priority fee for a service to be provided within 24 hours, because the Qualification Office may need to involve third parties in processing the application and it cannot guarantee their turnaround times.
